Once Upon a Version
Privacy for Readers
Last revised
Once Upon a Version has no reader accounts, no comments and no newsletter, and it shows no advertising. This page lists what the site measures and stores, and how to say no.
Google Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are read. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and collects information such as the pages you view, how long you stay, the page that sent you here, your approximate location, and your device and browser. Google's own explanation of how it uses information from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
The settings for this site keep event data for 14 months and leave Google signals and Google's account data sharing switched off. When Analytics loads, it is told that advertising storage, advertising use of your data and ad personalization are all refused.
When Analytics loads and when it never does
Whether you are asked first depends on where your visit comes from.
- In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a notice asks for your choice. Google Analytics is not loaded at all until you press accept: before that, no Analytics request is sent and no Analytics cookie is set.
- If you refuse, Google Analytics is never loaded for you in this browser unless you change your choice.
- If your location cannot be determined, the notice is shown, as it is in those regions.
- Elsewhere, Google Analytics loads when the page opens.
You can change your choice at any time with the “Analytics choice” link in the footer of every page. If you withdraw consent after Analytics has loaded, the page reloads without it. Cookies that Analytics had already set can be removed by clearing this site's data in your browser.
Cloudflare Web Analytics
The site is served through Cloudflare, which also runs Cloudflare Web Analytics on every page, in every region. It counts page views and measures how fast pages load. It uses no cookies and does not store anything in your browser, and Cloudflare states that it does not fingerprint visitors. The consent notice does not switch it on or off. If you want to stop it, a content blocker can block the script from static.cloudflareinsights.com.
Requests from mainland China and Russia are blocked by Cloudflare before they reach the site.
What is kept in your browser
- Your choice about Google Analytics, stored in this browser's local storage under the key
measure-391a, with the valuegrantedordenied. It stays until you change it or clear your browser's site data. - If you use the light and dark switch, that choice is also kept in this browser.
Search on this site
The search box filters a list of article titles, summaries and section names inside your browser. What you type is not sent anywhere.
If you write to contact@onceuponaversion.com, your address and message are used only to deal with what you wrote about.
